Jay Z, Kanye West & Frank Ocean can breathe easy over a 2014 allegation of copyright infringement from the song Made in America featured on Watch The Throne.
Back in 2014 New York musician Joel McDonald, who performs under the stage name Joel Mac, claimed that the concept of his song of the same name was stolen from him in 2009. A district court dismissed the case in September 2015, ruling McDonald did not have a strong enough case. Last Friday, an appeals court upheld the lower court’s decision.
This isn’t the first time The Throne has been targeted for copyright infringement, Syl Johnson, a soul singer went after the Throne for a “Different Strokes” sample used on “The Joy”.

Freddie Gibbs is finally a free man after being acquitted of rape allegations in Vienna, Austria on Friday. The Sexual Assault charges stem from an July 2015 incident, the rapper spent the last four months in French and Austrian jails.
According to reports, the victim claimed Gibbs spiked her and a friends drink in a Vienna hotel. It was proven during trial that there just isn’t enough evidence that would implicate Gibbs in any wrong doing, not even as much as to prove that Gibbs and the alleged victim had intercourse.
“There is no objective proof that Freddie Gibbs had sex with this woman,” Gibbs’ Austrian lawyer Thomas Kralik told the media in Austria. “Independent witnesses like the hotel receptionist and a hotel guest have stated that the women were tipsy but definitely still able to walk on their own two legs.”
Had Gibbs been convicted he would have faced 10 years in prison, today, Gibbs gets to return home to the U.S. and to his fiance. Gibbs’ U.S. lawyer Theodore Simon had this to say:
“While we are appreciative of the verdict of not guilty, nothing has changed. The actual facts have always demonstrated that Freddie was and is 100% innocent. It is now self-evident he was wrongly accused. The trial has confirmed our belief that after a searching and complete investigation and trial the true and actual facts would be revealed – that there always was an absence of any scientific, physical, or credible evidence that would warrant in any way such an accusation. Freddie and his family look forward to returning to the States so he can resume his life and career.”
