It’s no secret that Prodigy suffered from sickle cell disease, however it is unclear exactly what the cause of death is at this time. “Prodigy was hospitalized a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis,” their statement reads. “As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth. The exact causes of death have yet to be determined.”

Alongside Havoc, Prodigy formed the super duo group and released their first album Juvenile Hell in 1993, at a time when New York rap reigned supreme. Classic hits such as Shook Ones and Quiet storm are notable classics from these two. Prodigy also had a healthy solo career after releasing his first solo project H.N.I.C. (Head Nigga In Charge) back in 2000. Today, Hip-hop has lost another hero. R.I.P. Prodigy.
